Prior to pursuing a career in Product Design, I specialized in architectural lighting design and worked for several years as a product designer and a lighting designer in Germany and Austria. Currently, I have been working as a Product Designer for VERITAS Verlag, in Vienna, Austria.
Massimo Vignelli once said, "If you can design one thing, you can design everything". This seemed to be the most relevant quote to start telling my story. My background is quite multidisciplinary. I studied Bachelor of Industrial Product Design and Architecture. My work experience as an industrial designer spanned seviral industries such as jewelry, furniture and playground toys design prior to switching to the lighting industry. While I was doing my master’s in Stuttgart, Germany, I started developing project-specific lighting equipments for a light planning office and learned lighting planning. I moved to Graz, Austria to work for a lighting products producer in 2016. I worked for the same company for almost 6 years. I was Team Leader of a 4-people international team spread around Europe for one year prior to switching to IT Industry.
I had been interested in User Experience and Usability of digital products due to the close partnership with the marketing department of my previous company where website coordination was also managed. One particular product configurator project that I worked on directly in collaboration with the software engineers boosted my interest to pursue a second career in UX. On this project, I was not only providing the visuals for the project, but also giving usability feedback and being involved in testing the product. After this project, I developed a keen interest in UX and I decided to get an education to pursue a career in the field 💡
My work experience through the years involved collaborating directly with the clients, managers, and colleagues from international sales, marketing, product development, and architecture departments. For these departments, I served as the key interface for managing, receiving, and submitting projects. This ongoing collaboration with people helped me develop strong communication and multitasking skills. Moreover, I gained strong skills in terms of time management and finding the balance between the user and business goals/expectations. Being on both the creative and management side, I was involved in cooperation with the other departments, generating ideas and creating design solutions on a daily basis. Additionally, I had been responsible for the management of the team structures, working directly with my fellow team members to create a shared pool of work, evenly distributing work, and creating monthly/yearly department reports. This role helped me develop creative partnership and management skills. Also, I had been holding a monthly seminar/workshop internally where I thought Lighting Design Basics and how to use Lighting Calculation Software for several years in my previous company. Thanks to this experience, I have gained teaching skills that I also use in my current role and the ability to deeply connect with people 🤝
All in all, this strategic background taught me the value of research, observing client needs and taking one step back, and revising the provided design solution when required which are significant assets for a UX Designer 🧐
As Charles Eames once said, “The most important thing is that you love what you are doing & the second that you are not afraid of where your next idea will lead.” I always believe the diversity of design work enhances the flexibility of the mind. As a professional designer, I have the ability to apply design processes that I have been practicing for many years to any kind of project to be human-centric and usable. I am looking forward to pursuing future opportunities to work as a UX designer professionally. Moreover, I always look for an intellectually stimulating environment that would help me to unleash my true potential, add depth to my knowledge and we can learn together.
My previous manager used to define me as a role model who loves to share her experiences. In my professional and personal life, I love helping and supporting people. I pride myself on being proactive and having strong problem-solving skills. I am friendly, responsible, and a great team player. As a UX Designer, I would like to invest my dynamic and motivated spirit to create delightful digital products that meet people's needs and address solutions to their problems. Having found this career path, my future plan is to always be a part of a team that creates human-centric products that make a difference 🦄
